winchester model 70 question
« on: September 15, 2010, 06:10:15 PM »
my father got his hands on a winchester model 70 300 win mag classic laredo lrh with a fluted barrel a few years back, it has a millet 6-25X56 scope and from what I have tried to research on the net all I can find out is that this rifle was produced in 1998, there has been a friend/gunshop owner of his who has been pretty open about wanting it, but I can't find a price for that specific model anywhere. I was just wondering if there were anyone here who may know of a value/quality/rarity of what this gun may be...and by the way I honestly would rather him not get rid of it, I like this gun, if he had an offer I would try like heck to match it, but most likely not be able to

From my Blue Book of Gun Values Software:

Rifles: Bolt Action-Model 70, 1964-2000 MFG
Beginning 1994, Winchester began using the Classic nomenclature to indicate those models featuring a pre-1964 style action with controlled round feeding.
U.S. Repeating Arms closed its New Haven, CT manufacturing facility on March 31, 2006, and an auction was held on Sept. 27-28, 2006, selling the production equipment and related assets.
WSM cals. will bring an approx. 10% premium, and WSSM cals. will bring an approx. 15% premiums on most of the following models, if in 95%+ condition.

Model 70 Classic Sporter Laredo
- .300 Win Mag., 7mm STW (mfg. 1997-98), or 7mm Rem. Mag. cal., features claw extraction and controlled round feeding, 26 in. round or fluted (new 1998) barrel with (.300 Win. Mag and 7mm Rem. Mag. disc. 1997) or without BOSS. Mfg. 1996-99.
                                                                                          100%   98%   95%   90%   80%   70%   60%
                                                                                          $825   $700   $550   $450   $375   $325   $290
Add approx. 20% for BOSS (disc. 1998).
Add approx. $130 for fluted barrel.
Last MSR was $794.

Fjestads BBoGV 26th edition says $665-100%, $560-98%, $450-95%,$350-90%. Add $95 for B.O.S.S. system, add $130 for fluted bbl. Dealers on a trade give very little value on the scopes, unless top of the line Leupold or Swarovski. My 26th edition book is not the latest edition, so maybe add 10 - 15% ? Sounds like a very nice rifle- has the Mauser controlled feeding/claw extractor. KEEP IT, you might have a hard time trying to replace it with all the features for the money.

Winchester M70's are really going up in price as of late. My software is current to date, BBoGV is on its 31st edition.

thanks for the feedback guys, this rifle is a work of art, he has several other rifles "worth" more but I would take this one over any of them. I will make sure it doesn't get into the wrong hands (namely any hands that are not mine   )
