91/59
« on: June 30, 2012, 04:13:59 PM »
Stopped by a pawn shop today that I've never caught open before. See a mosin carbine on the rack.  91/59 for $175 otd. Grabbed it and ran.  Tula1939.  Pretty dang good shape, except so
somebody stripped the stock.  Think i will go back with BLO.  Pretty tickled. All Tula parts and all matching.

Very nice. Pictures?
It's an SKS, it'll work long after you don't.

Nice score!!!

Look closely at the stock, as they were stripped when they were converted to 91/59.

Isn't that a little steep in the price? I thought they were going for 100-125? Then again it's been awhile since I checked. To me it sounds like buying  an SKS for 700 bux. 175 a good price now? Thoughts?

Nice snag! You will be pleased.  :)

All the 91/59 stocks I've seen looked stripped with a sort of a (on the gloss side) satin finish applied.

This one is stripped, little bit of finish left in corners and crevises.    I myself have never seen one for less than $225, but have never seen too many.   I'm going to remove the rest of the finish and apply several coats of BLO. Would not alter but this one already was.  I will get it protected and serviceable.  The grain in the wood is nice and straight. Looking forward to how it turns out.  I will post pics.

You got a steal on that one. They bring good money. I had one and was offered 400 for it but traded it for a NIB Glock

$200 is what I got for mine last week. It's a neat rifle but I need to adopt some of my collection out.

He did really good on the price, very fair, discounted for the sanded stock (if it was sanded).  Most M91/59s have blondish colored stocks, not the refurb reddish color.  Don't refinish unless you are sure.  Here's data for recent M91/59 sales.
