First shots through '51 tula
« on: July 15, 2012, 01:17:42 PM »
Got my "new" russian to a local indoor range today. Was shooting Golden Tiger & Tulammo. Think I'll skip the tulammo next time. That stuff smelled terrible, lots of sulphur. I was stinking up the range!

Put about 100 rounds though it without a hitch. Could only shoot ~20 yards indoors. Groups were tight but consistently high. Could've been the shooter! Was standing and haven't shot rifles in a long time. And I really need to get glasses. Targets were a blur at 25yds. :(

The thing was hot when I got done. Had that smell of old wood & cosmo. Finished dumping rounds through my 10/22 & cz82 while it cooled off.

So, old gun looked unfired, now has some rounds down the pipe. Need to get some glasses and take it outside.

I, too, enjoy Golden Tiger more so than TulAmmo.  It seems more consistent.

Let's see some photos of your rifle!

High at that distance is normal as the bullet still rising. Should be a little high at 50 then level off at 100 yards with the sight set at that range

OK, OK! Bunch of picture junkies 'round here!  :)

'51 Tula refurb, all matching serials right down to the piston, excellent condition. Looked like a previous
owner cleaned off the cosmo & never shot it. Only wear is around the
sling clips and on the muzzle from the bayonet ( and now, since I broke it down to
clean it, there's a scratch from the lever that holds the receiver cover :( ):

Best part is that I got it off GB for $250 a couple weeks ago!

So now you made it a shooter, congrats on the price. then you can pass it on to the next sks guy for $300.00 and he can pass it on for $400.00 and on and on. that's the way the sks wheel work's.

The idiot mark on a 1911, named so because it is avoidable. Ain't no avoiding marking up the receiver from the receiver cover latch, unless you never clean it. More noticeable on a BBQ refurb, like the OP's.

Well my Colt 1911A1 shows that it's owner is indeed an idiot.  :banghead:

I'm thinking it's a shooter & a keeper. I don't want to be the guy lamenting that "I wish I'd never sold that sweet SKS I once had!".

I'm a noob idiot and there aren't any marks on my 1911, maybe somebody could picture the mark?

Nice '51 you have there!  I haven't gotten around to firing my 51's yet, been too busy torturing my Type 56.   But their time will come.  And yes, its very hard not to put marks in the paint on a black bolt SKS.
