Mak 91 ??? NHM 91 ???
« on: July 28, 2012, 12:09:25 PM »
If you had a chance to by a MAK 91 (NHM 91) what would be a good price. Has thumb hole stock, long barrel, 30 round clip, missing muzzle brake barrel (is threaded for one,) the pin that holds it in place has been cut off. Ser # begins with 93 (yr?). Few nicks and scratches but no bad, barrel rifling's look good.  What do you think,,,, any info would be greatly appreciated..
Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I traded for a Mak 90 sporter yesterday. Really like it. Supposed to be great guns.

Well... I've never seen a 30rd clip, so that alone would be amazing if it was original!  8)

Personally, I wouldn't go above $450, since you would have to replace the FSB I believe to get a new pin to hold any muzzle device in place. Additionally, the thumbhole stock isn't remotely ergonomic.

You can fix the pin without buying a new front sight base.  I wouldn't give a premium for the longer barrel because they are not as cool as a 16 barrel.  The extra 4" is a PITA.  I know,  I've owned them.
Does this one have a bipod?

That is the truth. I owned one and will never own another. Great shooter but the thing was just too long to be practical. Then there is the "butt-hole" stock.

If you want a RPK sized AK get one already set-up that way.

If the length bother you, dont get it. I've been looking for one local though, and would probably shell out 450 at the most for one, assuming it's not mutilated and is a straight cut receiver. I already have a MAK-90 debanned, so I'd like a NHM-91 to make an rpk clone.

In today's market any factory AK for $450 is a bargain.  The long barrel versions can make nice DMR rifles depending on how you set them up.  Optics etc.,

I was just out shooting my Maadi RML long barrel on Sunday.  The 6x24 POSP scope works like a champ on the rifle.  I had not fired it in a while and it performed very well. Shooting metal plates at 100 yards mostly.
