Camodeafie's 100rnd ammo pouch review
Greatguns:
I was fortunate enough to be able to be one of the beta testers for Camodeafie's new 100rnd(10 stripper clip) ammo pouches. I got 4 of them to try out in lieu of my 400rnd ammo Chest rig. First off I'll talk about how I set them up and basic functionality then I'll get into the construction and some critiquing.
I like how they set up on my Y harness using alice clips, which he included with them. They balance out well and make it easier to maneuver than having 400rnds strapped around your chest. Although I have to give the ruggedness of construction to the Chest rig,
In basically a little less space and better situated I have the same amount of ammo on strippers for my SKS, a canteen, and 50rnds on strippers of x54r for a Mosin. Also, Camo included side webbing so I can attach smaller pouches or what not. On this one I have a mag pouch and a para-cord cutting tool on each side. The para-cord tool works well for gutting a deer BTW.
The ammo sits well in the pouch and his sizing has been pretty consistent in spite of having issues with his sewing machine. One thing I noticed that I think most everyone will find works well, when pulling clips from the pouch for reload, take a clip from the middle instead of from the ends. I found the middle one comes out clean and with minimal resistance as opposed to taking from the end where they can hang up on the material. Even with the weaker clips I had in some rounds were not falling off like they always do in the chest rigs.
Okay, before I get into a critique, a disclaimer. I realize Camo had issues with his machine and was getting started and had to figure out, along with changes, how and where he was going to stitch the material, etc. I feel once he gets the pattern down it will be a better looking pouch than what I received even and I do feel I got 4 real nice looking pouches. In other words, if you like what you see in my pics you should really like the full production units. Having said that I really only have one recommendation at this time. In part because he already addressed one issue he found in producing these units. The issue he already addressed was the length of the webbing on the QD clips. The one green webbing pouch I received had the longer webbing and is a little loose fitting and, as he already mentioned in his thread, the brown webbing pouches were shortened up and cinch down much better. The other issue that I think might be a concern down the road is wondering if the bottom should be reenforced(double layered maybe). I bring that up because I am wondering if the clips, in moving around inside the pouch, will eventually start cutting through the material. That is obviously something that only time will tell, but it might be easier to head a potential problem off at the pass. I did notice in the aftermarket Chest rig and the EG grenade pouches that the inside was some kind of vinyl lining built into the material and it was heavier duty than the material Camo used. This, of course, may be the same material only sans the vinyl coating. He would know about that better than I. Catmandoo and sksmaniac may have something to say on that as well. I don't know the material qualities thatwell so may be a little too cautious on that factor.
All in all though, I am very pleased with the pouches and look forward to getting much use out of them. I feel they hold the ammo better than the EG grenade pouches and cover the ammo better as well as well as being easier to retrieve a clip without loosing a round than other pouches I've used. They fit on a web belt better too and more compact than a chest rig. And if you want to go to the range you can just grab one pouch and go. Instant 100rnd grab bag, so to speak.
I give it a 4 out of 5 and would improve that mark with reenforced bottoms. A big Thumbs up Camodeafie. :occasion5:

thank you!
yes; the bottom might need reinforcing; but so far, I have yet to see my prototypes fail...and the webbing issue is one I have pretty much figured; the material is 1000D cordura, the same as found on USGI pouches; and used in USGI equipment, and stronger/thicker than the earlier ALICE M16 pouches, which only has the plastic plates in front and back, with same sort of bottom folds as seen on the top flaps; IE, 2 triangles with a total of 3 layers of material; there is 1" space and an upside down triangle that is 1 layer, we will see how long those last with the clips, but I have a feeling they should be better than the canvas 200 round chestrig...

Yeah, not knowing the specs on the material kind of put me on the down side of that, but with this info it should be fine. A guy could always cut a piece of plastic or something to set in the bottom if he wanted to as well. And yes, I didn't mention the older canvas 200rnd Chest rig, but you are probably correct that they will hold up better than those do for sure.

I really like this ammo pouch so when do you think you will start to sell them? And when you do will you make them in black?

EIB Robot, this is just a review I did on these pouches. Your question would be more quickly answered if you go to the Retail and Venders section where Camodeafie has his thread on these and ask him there directly as he may or may not post up here. FWIW, I believe he is taking pre-orders already.
