Springfield 87M military / Stevens 101.16 civilain trainer
« on: March 17, 2013, 12:40:54 PM »
I picked up this 22cal semi auto training rifle and it has gills aloong side the bolt.  Its a semi auto in 22lr and a bolt rifle in 22l & 22s rounds. You push in the bolt knob horizontally to make it shoot like a bolt action.  There is a 20 page post on parallaxbill's C&R forum about these two rifles that are actually twins one being a military trainer and the other the civilain rifle too. If you search for these two rifles they seem to run between $1,500 to $650.  I just picked up the US Martial 22RF book about all the military training rifles and this one isn't in it I guess they migtht have missed it.  She looks like a Garand.

BigBill...

Its not in any of the books on US military trainers...... because it never was one.

These had the same action as the original 87A and many many other models leading all the way into the savage days.... This model is a rare find as a low production model in its original configuration which was made to (look) like the popular GI M1 garand.

Post up some pics...... they sure are neat looking!

they are neat little rifles but they were NEVER military trainers.  They simply tried to get sales by making a rlfle that looked like a military gun.
guns be funs

Really not trying to argue, but anyone making any type of hypothetical links to these rifles being trainers purchase by the gov in that thread... just flat out dont know their ars from a hole in the ground.

Ill have my father ask Tom Batha what he thinks next time they talk.
