Domestic spying poll
« on: March 22, 2006, 10:09:54 AM »
Here in AZ they ran a poll divided between Democrats and Republicans. (I'm neither) on whether they favored domestic spying. (Big brother getting more power) It made the front page this morning.

70% of Republicans said they were in favor, 27% of Democrats said they were in favor. So, I'm running my own poll. Are YOU in favor of domestic spying or not? And, why or why not. Please mark in 'correct' Liberal or Conservative spot. Thanks!

Are we talking Unconstitutional domestic spying?

And is there a sane and intelligent person that can completly identify with either of those two labels?

Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Yeah, I think they mean the "President Bush should have been impeached but the house and senate are in his majority so they can't get the 2/3 rule" domestic spying case.  Where he authorized random wire tapping to "fish" for "terrorists" in the US.  Unconstitutional and grounds for impeachment - pretty much everyone agrees.  Now, get his cronies to vote against him in the senate and house... not going to happen.

70% of Republicans are in favor of violating their fellow citizens' rights.

That sounds about par.

I'm in favor of violating everyone's rights except mine.

Actually, if the President says it's good... it's all good w/me until proven otherwise by other officials.  It's our check and balance system.  This time, the balance seems a bit off, so the checking is askew as well.  The Prez. is our elected thinker (stop laughing), so we need to let him think until someone else in the system smacks him down for violating a law (he has PLENTY of opponents "on the hill" to do it, too).  It's easy to think he has violated our rights and laws in this case, with all the spying and such, but I don't know the particulars, so I can't judge.

It makes my hillbilly side's hair start to stand up though to think they are spying on me openly.  They have always done it secretly, and that's the way I like it - my right to privacy being violated secretly.

This bothers me. PC can be anything thus letting the man do what they want.
I was told by a cop once that they do not need PC anymore to search anything.

I'm still waiting for him to actually start thinking.  It's been about 6 years now, and he still hasn't shown any sign of doing that.

Listen to my cell calls, land line, FRS all you want...you will fall asleep.

Tap away GW, if it catches a Islamist... good for all. If it catches you looking for your next bag of dope, well I can see why your sweating.

Its not like the tap can be used against you anyway. You really think that your small little meaningless conversations really matter to anyone?

Assuming you mean Liberal and Conservative as interpreting the constitution, I voted conservative against.

The standard operating procedure is to pretend to do it secretly (people know about it, just can't prove it), then wait until people are used to taking it and make it official policy. This isn't some slippery slope any more. This is a finalization, it's the sharp rocks at the bottom of the slippery slope.

I'm sorry, but when any entity can drop in on what you're doing and say "You're not allowed to be doing that!", it denotes a master-slave relationship. This is the polar inverse and a defilement of what American government was intended to be.

You know what really, really, really, really, really, really, really, bothers me about this poll?

You're either Conservative or Liberal.

Go move to Italy where things are that polar, because in America theres a wide spectrum of philsophies and sides. I'm Libertarian and I think the President should be imprisoned, not just impeached for what he did.

It's the principle. It's unconstitional.

Gee golly I guess it's okay to ban guns I don't have a need for them. I'll let the cops protect me they do such a fine job as it is. Only criminals need guns with mags more then 5 rounds and mags that are external.

You're appeasing the tiger.

Great, you have all the guns in the world.

With no freedom to talk about them or to speak your mind their useless. Start shooting back in todays political climate and you're a terrorist. That is unless your some wannabe Charles Bronson perforating pedophiles, then vigulantieism is alright because it's endorsed by the media and government.

It's not just guns we have to be worried about anymore. It's what we say and where we say it that's in jeparody now also.

People like Throb forgot why america was started. And most of you guys remember the pilgrims coming over and the farmers escaping the british government, yet forget the british conficating firearms and people fighting back which is the real reason why this is here.

We need to fight for all our freedoms. IT doesnt make it alright for people to wire tap us just because they'll fall asleep because you're innocent (for now) anymore then banning military style weapons in favor of hunters.

That was the point I was trying to make.
