Tech sights- latch pin removal
« on: July 18, 2013, 01:22:03 AM »
So I got the TS200 set, however, my 1951 Tula SKS takedown latch pin won't come out.

I can see that it was press fit in there (you can see the other blind end of the latch pin, it's not welded), and yet it won't come out even if I hit it with a punch.

The reason I got the TS200 was because the original rear sight wobbles (left/right) play.

I'd really rather not grind off the latch pin considering this gun is all matching.

Any other options? I'm puzzled  :?

If it's like mine, a punch will only make it tighter

Guess I forgot, it's the big end that's exposed when it's installed.

Rocket, did you tap on the "nub" end or the flat end?

Could you help explain the procedure to me, I tried even heating up the latch pin, then tapping it with the cleaning kit punch.

It's hard to really put force on it since the takedown pin is free to move in the receiver.

Is the latch considered a part of a "numbers matching" SKS?

Kinda..sort..not really

Just grind off the nub and pull it out.

I don't remember :) ?
But I wouldn't give too much thought about the little pin.  Mine didn't have any number on it.

On my SKS-M I overturned the latch (leaving the part i had to punch upwards) then put it in its guide hole as if I was going to be putting the rifle back together and used the reciever as the brace so I could give the punch a few good hits. I don't know if this recommended or not, but it worked for me.
