my first ak kit,
« on: August 24, 2013, 09:42:53 PM »
So here it is. My first Ak parts kit got it for $300 . It is a matching 1972 Romanian screw build kit, that was spray painted black.  The hood on the FSB is cracked and squished, will be replacing. The wood looks great, the finish is showing its age is all.

The front trunnion screws are 10 32 for the top 2 and 1/4 28 for the bottom
the rear trunnion looks like it was 12 28 screws,  I'm going to grab a new rear trunnion.

Soon as I dipped this kit in my mix of simple green and hot water the paint started pealing off.  I'm not complaining, It makes rust blueing it alot easier.

I still think for $300 I got a good deal on a matching kit with original barrel.

I am going to be spending time researching converting screw kit to rivet
builds in the next few days. Any help and input I would appreciate.

And I am going to start on rust bluing the steel as soon as I get all the paint off of it.

I am ordering a Henderson 80% receiver Monday for it.

question about that big ass hole on the bottom screw, Will I need to get it welded up and then redrill it for the proper rivet?

It is a carbine because Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov said it's a carbine.

I would just use an oversize diameter rivet.  You just spin the rivet shank in a drill press and use a file to reduce the head size to match the other rivet head size.  It will crush fine ad fill the void., might have to use a little longer rivet depending on how undersized the diameter is.  Blue after final riveting is done.

Ravan, I am curious about your receiver....I saw the ad for the Henderson receivers a while back, but I was under the impression they were out of stock (as their page still indicates) and did not plan on making more. Did you buy it from a private individual, or is Henderson making them again? I have some pre-barrel ban kits to build, would love to build from a flat or 80%, but I don't really want to deal with mounting the rails.
