New Norinco SKS--low serial number?
« on: May 03, 2006, 08:33:43 PM »
Alright folks, I picked up a beautiful Norinco SKS last night for $180. It has the rectangle with 223 in it and  17  004XXX after it. Can anyone give me year range it was made in?

Oh yeah it was imported by Davidson's in Nrth Carlina.

All the numbers matched except for the stock. The stock was a four digit number also but very close to my actual serial number.

I will add pics when I pick up my Paratrooper next weekend.

With all due respect, Axxe, you've been around long enough to have learned to go to the Chinese Forum and look at the STICKY post entitled Dating the Chinese SKS.

Thanks Galahad. Being braindead everyday when I get in from work really doesn't help matters much. Its hard to decipher translated chinese with crossed eyes.

Sounds like a good deal Axxe. If I am not mistaken, the dating by serial # only applies to the triangle 26 sks. :)

Well I did make a mistake in my original post. It is a 19 and not a 17 but I am still really happy with it. I will post pics as soon as I pick up the paratrooper.

Lafayettegregory is correct.
What I read indicated that "not all" factory codes were set up with the year as the first two digits.  Does that mean that "only" factory 26 used that method?  If so, what are the first to digits on all the other factory codes?
