Ak recoil spring recommendation??
« on: November 30, 2021, 09:27:08 PM »
We had a family shooting gathering Sunday.

Brought my Norinco NHM-91.

Tried a new Rom 75rd Drum and Chinese made mag with Tula ammo.

Both would shoot twice and jam with the bullet in the chamber but not fed all the way.

Assume its the recoil spring finally wore out or is the Tula ammo under pressure?

So was looking on Numrich and they have many different recoil springs for the AK, any preferred spring for my rifle?

Help is appreciated before ordering one.

I would rule out the ammo 1st using a mag you know is 100%. As far as new recoil springs ALG makes an enhanced replacement spring.

The mag I used worked previously when I used it before the family gathering.  :?

Which is funny when I pulled back the action and let if fly, they all go in. Did this after I got home.

I did the above with the Drum when I got it. Had to file the mag catch on the back of the drum to get it to correctly seat on my mag catch. :banghead:

Whats the shipping cost, annoying you have to fill out all the info to find out shipping.

On Numrich total amount was $19.19.

Was going to just order the one that says its for an AKM.

I had some issues like this with a friend's maadi ak. There js a thread in an section.  What ended up curing the issue was smoothing the rail surface that the bcg rides on AND we had to put a shim on the gas tube.

I know he had also put on a new recoil spring assembly too.  I like the 2 tubes design where one tube rides inside the other.

Some factory NHM-91 rifles were manufactured with a rivet in the magazine release button, preventing use of some Soviet or German-made AKM or AK-47 magazines. Instead, special magazines with a modified tang were manufactured by Norinco for the NHM-91.

The rivet is brass ,file or pop it out..

Mine was already modified when I purchased it in 1994.

Going to try some Wolf MC and Red Army ammo this weekend, before replacing the recoil spring.

Long thinking, leads to believe I may have gotten a bad batch of TULA..

 8)

Tried Wolf and Red Army fed and ran smoothly.

It seems the culprit was the Tula ammo.

First time ran into trouble with Tula.. :banghead:
