Kalinka has Molot SKS Rails

LESchwartz:
Just a heads up.  Kalinka optics has "MOLOT SKS Original Rail with Rivets" in stock.  These are the perfect rail for mounting AK optics to you SKS, since the mount the optic at the correct height and do not require the stock to be modified.  For more info, see:  http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=565.

PS:  Here's a photo os the end result:

Very interesting -novel approach in the desigh.

I wonder how solid the rail is.

Lollygagger  :? (I may have a use for that POSP of mine yet!)

Tony C.:
seems like an unnecessary amount of flex and leverage to me.  I'm prolly wrong, but that's my internet impression.

Leverage, yes.  Flex, no.  Leverage is obvious.  Flex is difficult to determine from just a photo.  FWIW, mine is not yes mounted, but the metal seems very hard and very strong.  I doubt there would be much flex.  For those worried about flex, there is also a "double connection" version (http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=177).  The bottom attaches to the stock, which I'm not sure I could recommend.

IMHO, this sort of mount is the only real option for using POSP optics on an SKS.  The "non-hanging rails" not only require relieving the stock, but place the scope way too high for most shooters.  And while it's possible to use a standard rail (http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=551) with a "low profile weaver mount" (http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=189) -- but there are probably cheaper and better options for a weaver receiver mount.

There was quite a "buzz" here on the board last year when we first noticed these mounts.  And lots of folks expressed and interest in getting them (which is why I stickied the info, at least temporarily).  So while this mount is probably not for everyone, I think allot will find it useful.

YMMV.

Larry,
I bought one of those low-hanging mounts from IO some time back but was shocked to feel the weight of it, especially when combined with the weight of a POSP scope. Is this mount much lighter, do you know?
Also, are you going to use the rivets or drill/tap?
