Yugo front sight adjustment tool?
« on: March 04, 2007, 05:38:31 PM »
I finally have some spare cash to fix up my SKS and get some of the tools I want... anyways I was looking at the front sight adjustment tools on tapco's website and they say they don't work with the Yugos.  Most of them I have seen everywhere else say the same, too.  Does anyone know where I can find one that will work with a Yugo?  Mine shoots high so I would like to adjust the sight...

Huh, I've used the same tool for all my SKSs... Russian, Albanian, Romanian and Yugo

http://www.tapco.com/proddesc.aspx?id=1a7b1e9a-dec6-4eb0-90be-b1e29b62794b

Item Description:
Designed on request by military services deployed overseas, our windage and elevation sight tool is the strongest on the market today.  Manufactured from 4140 steel, this tool is as rugged as the weapon it was designed to work on.  Easily make adjustments to AK and SKS variants. Marked “TAPCO USA ” and stamped with our CAGE Code.
NOTE:  The elevation part will not work with YUGO variants.

http://www.tapco.com/proddesc.aspx?id=ec8f9138-42eb-4ccc-8440-eaa6a4c923c0

Item Description:
This lightweight front sight adjustment tool works on both the AK and SKS weapons (except Yugo SKS).  Reinforced with a metal insert, this tool allows for quick and easy elevation adjustments.

So then will either of these work on the M59/66?  They say they don't, but I didn't think there was that big of a difference in the sights of the Yugo vs. those made by other countries.

I have both those tools. The metal one works perfectly, the plastic one IS a tight fit through the sight hood but workable. I don't have no ideer why they make the distinction on the Yugo.

I use the chinese sight elevation tool that you turn with the gas port ream...

I had to widen the notch on one to fit the Yugo sight (it would still work on a chinese -loose, but work).

Hmm... whoever writes the product descriptions must not know what they're talking about.  Thanks for the info, time to spend some money!

Get the one "that doesnt work with a yugo" and file it down using a metal file to make it fit. It will take you two minutes to make it fit. Did it to mine and had no issues since.

This is the worst-case scenario.
I like the way the TAPCO description almost suggests your Yugo will self-destruct if you use that tool.

So nobody makes a tool that is made especially for fitting Yugos?

I'm OK, my new Yugo shot to point of aim as it was. But if it wouldn't have, I would want to use the correct tool.

You can use a regular one, just file down the opening.  The front sight post on Yugos is a little "beefier" than on the other SKS's

Funny you should ask.

Doesn't help with the windage but it got me by for quite a while before I bought a tool.
Just a steel rod I bent and gave it a talking to with Mr. Hacksaw and a file:
