Homemade Gun Vise
« on: March 21, 2008, 08:52:29 AM »
Hello!

After watching this video http://youtube.com/watch?v=TkmCzwhH3xE

I decided to make this:

It's made of scrap lumber (so it was free!) and I will use it to bore sight my scope in a few days.

Wish me luck !

Good project. Free, and very useful.

Q: how do you keep the rifle from moving?

A: I will be adding some foam to the "cradle areas" of the vise.
Also, I will add a clamp section to the comb area.

Update!

I added a slider to front area (routed slots and used carriage bolts) so I don't have to use a clamp. Will have to get some wing nuts (so I don't have to use a wrench to level the rifle).

Have not yet decided how to clamp the rear yet.

Suggestions are welcomed!

I added the rear clamp today!

Big pic viewable here:

I did a beginner bore site, need a smaller mirror to get a perfect view down the barrel.

But I think I have it close enough to get "on paper" when I shoot it soon.

Thanks for reading this,

Saw this today on gunbroker. cool idea for a vice! I've got one under construction in the garage, just waiting for the warmer weather to finish it up. I'll post pics when I have it done.
