Did mine too.  Whats the 8-4 trick?

It's a chamber throat "job" where a approx. 45 degree angled chamfer/radius is cut with a (Dremel) stone & polished from the 4:00 to 8:00 postion. The width at the bottom measures under 3mm.

Here's a so-so pic of one done on my Yugo...

It is a little hard to see, as I re-touched it with some cold blue.

This will allow the SKS (or whatever arm -this is commonly done on military 1911 .45's to allow HP feed) that was designed for FMJ ammo use -to digest anything. It works very well.

just looking for a little more detail on a safe way to perform this mod.  Lolly is always very good at providing details.  It took me a while to be comfortable enough to do the bolt mod but it turned out great!  Thanks Lolly.

Yes! You must have a automatic feed ramp fixin' machineLaughing (kiddin')

The throat job looks like one of those "magic" & spooky things -but it is straight forward (and quite easy).

It is done with a Dremel (or similar tool) and a fine stone bit...either cylindrical or conical (conical works best) at a medium speed, working, in the case of the SKS, THROUGH the bottom of the action.

This probably will leave a adequate finish to get the desired function, but it can be further smoothed via a round stone "stick" -by hand. Or (better) a felt tip & Dremel using red jewelers rouge or fine automotive polishing  compound (dry stick)....the rouge is best.

While you need no more than average skill with a Dremel to do this, if unsure or inexpereinced, it is best to practice on some scrap metal (don't use aluminum) to get the "feel" -a small piece of pipe would be a good thing to practice on. The "feel" is one where you are less "hanging on a small grinder" than "drawing/painting" with a large pen/brush...and, take your time.

That's it (it is easier than the bolt mod). Be sure to flush the metal dust & polish grit out well. BTW, I usually push a tight patch wad down the bore, just above the chamber...and push it through when done.

P.S -Polish your bolt bottom while you are at it!

Dremel & tips

Dremel conical stone tip

Dremel cylindrical stone tip

Dremel felt polishing tip
(There is a shaft with a "wood screw" end that these screw on.)

I'm posting this link here for all those thinking about doing this mod.
There's some comments from Murray about how little it takes to ruin rifle.
