I like good old Breakfree CLP.  It's pretty much all I use.

Welcome!

Pretty much any reputable brand of gun oil.  I use Hoppes and also the Rem-oil.  I think there are quite a few other name brands for gun oil that should work well.  Its a lot like the Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge comparison, though.  All of us have our favorite brand for our own reasons, but all do pretty much the same thing.

The key is to use sparingly.  The SKS really doesn't need much oil.  Just a little bit on the moving parts, and a patch down the bore after cleaning is plenty.  I usually wipe my bolt and carrier down after oiling so as to not have a lot accumulated.

If you have a lot of oil pooled in the rifle, it can actually gum up a bit from any dust and residue that might be in the action.  It will also blow out in your face when you shoot if there is too much in there as well.

I use Breakfree on most moving parts and I have recently started using white lithium grease on the rails.  Some guys have said the white lithium grease adheres well to metal parts.

My old shop teacher used to tell me,
"Anything is better than nothing".
He would use this in reference to lubricating oil for machines.

Depending on the climate where you live, you'll find that some oils work better than others.
Some have said that rem oil evaporates, leaving the rifle unprotected.
I've never had any trouble, not matter what type of oil I've used
but I'm in an area that's dry a good part of the year.
I'm sure that in the more hot/humid climates, the heavier and more vicious oils work the best.

As of late, I've been using some synthetic gun oil and man, it more than does the job for my area. It's even hard to get it all off months later if I want to degrease a part to do some bluing.

You'll just have to try some things and see what works best for you.

I live in a pretty dry climate as well (it is a desert, after all) so humidity is not really a problem most months.  I do run a swamp cooler in the summer so I have to be careful and keep oil on exposed metal surfaces during the summer months.

I typically use Breakfree CLP and universal gun grease for high wear areas.  I find that the Breakfree doesn't evaporate for several months.

Works well for me.

Believe it or not I use plain mineral oil from everything to wipe down to working on metal.  No smell and easier on the body.  Alot of gun oils have mineral oil as a base.  Balistol I think uses it.  The italians used to use olive oil back in the day, I think.   Dont quote me on that though.

The  " Eyetalians" might have been on to something if they did so?
Its a real light oil that will protect as well as any and being so light, wouldnt attract a lot of dust and dirt.
It was probably the most common oil they had available, or, this is one of those

I use WD-40 for cleaning (exept the bore) and Duralube for lubrication.

Rem Oil to "hose out" things like the bolt and the gas piston and gas tube when removed.

Hopps for the Bore and chamber.

That is how I do it

I may go to WD40 for the "hosing out" though... cheaper and more readily available to me.
