Made in USA
galahad:
The purpose of this thread is to post specific items that we have purchased and used that have met or exceeded our expectations and that are made in the USA.
The only way we, as a country, are going to re-establish a significant manufacturing sector in our economy is to buy American made products. It's really just that simple. Since our standard of living is higher than China, Malaysia, Korea, etc., we are also going to have to bite the bullet and pay a few cents more.
But guess what? I am making a concerted effort to Buy American and I am really, really pleased. About a year ago I bought a really fancy looking hose nozzle. Wasn't really happy with it but just shrugged it off. Since I now have two hoses I needed another one. Being careful I was looking at all the nozzles. Home Depot had maybe ten different types and styles but I finally found one that said Made in USA. I bought it. Man, I can't tell you the difference in quality. The US made nozzle is smooth, changes streams easily and consistently, and in all ways outperforms the fancy Chinese made unit. So, to make a long story short, I went back and bought another one and the Chinese POS is retired.
Another story revolves around plastic cups. With the new pool I decided that we needed a "set" of glasses to use outside. Over the past few years we have gone through literally dozens of plastic glasses, all of which spider webbed, cracked, and otherwise became pretty useless in a short period of time. So I shopped around the web and found an outfit named Tervis. Suffice it to say that these glasses have a lifetime warranty, they are dishwasher safe, have neat embroidered stuff between the layers, and work so well I can fill up a glass with ice and ice tea, go to the doctors office, do some shopping, come back three hours later and the drink is ice cold and barely watered down from ice melt.
I would STRONGLY urge everyone to take the time and make the effort to Buy American. Yes, things will cost a bit more than the cheap imported krap but the fact that you are employing Americans instead of Chinese is important and the fact that the product quality is often head and shoulders above the imports will, in the long run, make the products cheaper to own.
Finally, if you are in the market for a new car, again, it's your choice. You can do your part to keep Americans employed or you can employ Germans, Koreans, Japanese, and soon the Chinese. Think about it. If we buy products from ourselves we won't see the government "bailing out" our manufacturing industry. We, the people, will bail them out by buying their products as opposed to having government take our money and give it to them anyway.
Think about it.

My latest vehicle is a Dodge. I can't agree more, it is getting difficult to buy all American though.

I agree with Galahad 100%. We have two choices, make stuff and profit, or buy it and lower our standard of living. I know there are a few sites on the net that have lists of stuff you can buy that is Made in USA, it is hard to do but there are ways to keep money here if you try. Now if we could just have a sticky or a sub forum where we could list products Made in the USA and keep that list growing it would help,. Hint Hint. What pissed me off the other day is that Schrade Knives have a USA flag on the front of the package and a made in china on the back.
Some stuff that I know you can find:
New Balance, makes great tennis shoes - not all are USA, but many are, read the label on the shoe itself.
Buck Knives, again they are whoring out too, but some are still made in USA
Martin guitars, to my knowledge are still made in PA
Is there any better time to support FORD and GM, mostly FORD, I'm sorry Chrysler sucks.
Redwing boots are made USA I think.
Mossberg's- I heard a rumor that the Maverick was made in China, but I also heard that was total BS.
There are many building products / some clothing. Like I said it would be great to have a master list.

I needed a couple of outdoor storage units as lawnmowers and pool gear is NOT going to be in my garage. So I did my research. Found one made in USA. Went to Lowes and bought two of them.
Does anyone have even the slightest idea what it's like to open the box, have ALL PARTS exactly right, EVERY PART labeled accurately, and, will wonders never cease, directions that made sense? This may be the first thing I've bought in years that was flawless in design, manufacture, kitting, and instructions.
This thing snapped together, but was engineered flawlessly and because they said it was weatherproof I gave it a good hose down and yup, virtually ZERO water inside after a pretty high pressure test.
It really looks like American companies, at least some of them, really have a handle on quality. Suncast made this locker and now I'm going to look into their garage organizer systems, etc.. And I'm going to send them a letter too.
