Any gun that the best thing you can say about it is "it has a lifetime warranty" is not a gun that I would stake my life on. My friend has the 9mm...C9 I think? The time that he let me shoot it I had 2 FTF in 20 rounds. It looked and felt cheap.

But I do hear that the carbines are fantastic guns.

If your trying to save A $$ but get A cheaper pistol check out Taurus.
I have no feedback on the Hp-point as I have never used one.

Get a Bersa.
the thunder series are pretty good and priced right as well.
they have a .380,9mm,.40 and .45 in the thunder series.
if money is an issue, go with bersa.
hi points are fun to shoot, but can be troublesome.
the one i shot did ok, but felt funny in the hand and seemed bulky

you stirred a hornets nest, a lot of people automaticly bash them as "cheap" or "potmetal"

this is about as boring as the AK vrs. AR arguments.

As my username implies, i have a hipoint JHP .45 and love it.
First, it was just a stepping stone till that holy grail of a M1911.
then my buddy who has one went with me to the range.....
i out shot him my a LONG margin. so we swapped...
he outshot ME.   we decided it was the gun, since we are almost even with one anothers skills

flash forward several years. i did a reliability test. several thousand rounds, no cleaning, dropped in a bucket of water and then cat litter (eeeeww!), threw it into a mud puddle, and i did NOT get ONE failure to feed to failure to eject.  8)

the only time my JHP has jammed in any way was when an IOIOT chambered a round, removed the mag, topped off, and put the mag back in BACKWARDS. what a stupid sight...

i also want to mention the ease of the single action trigger, saftey in the right spot for quick and silent access, and 9 shot factory magazine, and all are +P capable. mine just loves .45 acp +P in jacketed hollow points

mine cost me $145, has now a Houge grip, and a Laser, so add $10 and $20. $175 total for a weapon that ill probably give my kids.

PS: there is one thing that i cannot dispute, it is hard to field strip for cleaning, until i followed HI-Point's advice, DON'T. lock the slide back, oil the action and innards, run a bore snake through it. ive put close to 10,000 rounds through it this way, and it WORKS. 8)

Note: sorry ment to edit spelling and accidently replied to myself.

So what do  you think of it?

Reliable?

Worth the money?

Good value?

Worthless?

There is a surprising amount of people on this forum who absolutely dote over the Hi-Point pistol and they seem to deliver reasonable relibabilty due to their simplicity.  And we all need to remember that they are made to a certain price point.  They certainly are not intended to compete with Glock, SIG, Beretta, etc.

Personally I'm not too big on straight blow-back operated pistols in calibers larger than 9x18 Makarov with their necessarily extra heavy slides so the Hi-Point is not my cup of tea.  The operation is dead-simple though because of that.  I don't think their resale is as good as more expensive pistols in comparison, but with their low initial cost that probably is a moot point.  I'm doubt that the someone's grandson is going to get as excited about inheriting a Hi-Point as he would a nicer pistol though.
As to their aesthetics... well I think they make my Glock look svelte and sexy, so that is a real hi point for me!
I also feel good about using hardware that the police or military uses, and I'm not too sure how many PDs go into harm's way with a Hi-Point.  However sometimes you just want something fun to shoot, so...

Sometimes I think that you either are a Hi-Point kinda guy or not - and you'll have to decide for yourselves.
I'm a save-up-for-something-else-even-if-it-is-used kinda guy myself.
My other question is exactly what is the slide is made from?  Ordnance-grade machined steel or cast "potmetal"?

This is what im talking about.
Have you ever owned one?
And i understand the police and milatary thing, but does that mean any gun not used by police/military is junk. Of course not.
The direct blowback design is designed to limit the number of moving and working parts, improve accuracy, and decrese cost. A hipoint .45 has 38 parts, a colt M1911 has 60, not including the magazine. That is why they are so cheap. Not because of "Potmetal" (its aluminum and zinc, by the way).

But, as you say, yor either a hi point guy, or not. Now, i will say this and im not directing it at any one person, but do not be a "gun snob" and regaurd all but the most expensive weapons as junk. At least try them before ranting on the fourms about how much they suck.

I may be a bit of an exception to most Hi-Point owners, putting mine through so much, but that because i demand a lot from it. and trust me, if it didn't hold up, i would be telling you here and now about that pieces of crap they are, but as is, mine is exelent, and so is my wifes .380 she carries. (Tell the truth, that little .380 is a tack driver, even more so than my .45, and im envious!)

Actually their re-sale value holds probably better than most handguns BECAUSE of the unconditional lifetime warranty, buying a used one is as good as getting a new one minus the $20 for sending it in, so for that matter I have seen used C9s sell routinely for $150 and I can get a new one locally for $139.99 + tax.  The regional pricing on Hipoints is also very different around the country, some regions the C9 is $220.

I bought a C-9 the day I turned 21.  Took it to the range, and it jammed more times than it fired.  I messed with the feedlips on the mag, and it worked somewhat better.  I wouldn't trust my life with one, but if you don't have the funds for a decent gun....Get a hi-point.  They are a great range gun.  My buddy bought a used .40 Hi-Point(ugly) and it never had a problem.  It was just VERY ugly.  I sold mine.

Well i think i'm going to be the guy to give this pistol it's props! My wife has the C9 as her C&C  and it has been very reliable! So far we've shot over 2500rds through her and not one issue.....Not one!!!!! I just took my mother-n-law to the gun store and got her the .380 and guess what....I've had her shoot (so far) 250rds out of it and not one issue! Now maybe i'm just the "lucky one" but of course this matter has been discussed numerous amounts of times! As far as the price goes...I couldn't pass it up! I take very good care her pistol and she takes care of my wife! Sounds like a pretty fair trade to me!
For we are many.................
