SKS Pistol found in Iraq
« on: July 09, 2009, 11:31:54 PM »
Can't take credit for this, as it was originally posted over on AR15.com.  My thanks to the soldier(s) that took the pic and for their service to our country.

It almost looks like some of the parts are Chromed, like this was at one point part of an honor guard rifle.  The fact that it has no sights, and no gas system says to me this was a "SHTF" gun unlike what we'd typically consider a SHTF weapon.  If it came down to this is all you had left in a fire fight, you are in pretty dire straights.

Almost reminds me of the stories and pictures of the Mosin Nagant Rifles that were cut in to pistols.

Manual cycling, I presume, since no gas system.

I'd like to rummage around in that box a little.  To see what I could see.

Must be an hideaway assassination weapon. Or some guy was really bored. I wouldn't think pistols could be that hard to find there. Must be a lot of Maks,Toks, Webelys, and Berratas in that area, right?  Thanks for posting.

In 2004 I don't think there were a lot of pistols there, that was a big commodity for the local leaders. Rumor was that only members of Sadam's assasination squad had pistols. As time went on we started to see a few more. The Iraqi Police were issued new Glock pistols/ G19s. Most of what I saw were cheap pistols, never saw a CZ52 Tok.

The two little black pistols look like small caliber Berretta's.  A old FN .32,  the revolver butt you can see looks sort of like a Webley.  I'd say the sawed off is a H@R but the barrel release is wrong.  My brother has on like it but it has no brand on it.
A couple of MP-5 magazines,  a couple of AKMS.
Hard to tell anything else from this picture.  And those are just quick guesses before I run off to work.  :)  So don't shoot me if I'm wrong.
What is the black stock looking thing in the upper left hand corner.  Looks like an even unglier version of a Draganov stock than the ATI.

I think pistols over there are hard to come by and have some status quo that goes with them. We found several people carrying starter pistols and toy guys that looked real. In this case I think someone came up with an idea to make a "pistol".

Good point. When I ws over there I noticed that the locals were way more impressed with our sidearms than our rifles and that people would often carry "fake" pistols... I hadn't thought about that in a while.
