Shipping
« on: November 24, 2009, 08:27:21 AM »
I went to the UPS store today to ship out my trigger group and asked to get a tracking number on the package, the clerk inquired what the package was and I went ahead and said that it was the trigger group for a rifle.  The clerk then informed me they were unable to ship the package because "it was part of a gun and these parts could be disassembled and reassembled..." etc.  He said that they could go ahead and ship it "regular postage" but if it was found and labeled as a part of a gun it could be confiscated...

What is this bs?  Any problems like this for you guys?

Actually now that I think about it I might go back to the store and ask for my package back.  I am getting paranoid now...

I wouldn't worry about it. I sent my TG to Tom Prince USPS and had no problems. I have also sent a couple bolts to Ben Murray USPS no problems. But at USPS they don't ask exactly what it is just if it's hazardous .

So I went back to the store and the "owner" was not there anymore (elderly looking liberal woman heheh).  The dude behind the counter said that there should not be any problem shipping my TG and he happily upgraded the freight on my package, $100 insurance, and a tracking number hehehe...  Delivery is gauranteed by Dec. 1 to Kivaari, can't wait to get it back so I can get my red dot bore sighted in :)  Then it is off to GA after Christmas for some good shooting on my GFs 500 acre tree farm  8)

That's definitely large BS.

The UPS Store, whatever, is a franchise. You not only can't ship everything you want, but you pay a higher rate than if you deal directly with UPS via their "customer counter". Unfortunately, customer counter locations aren't very convenient and few in number. This is why when I ship a firearm, I go to the UPS customer counter.

Also, I ship my triggers via USPS Priority Mail and of some 2,000 plus mailings have only had 2 problems.

When I want a ground carrier I use FedEx at Kinko's which is direct business with FedEx.
