ATTENTION NEW MEMBERS, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST
« on: January 23, 2013, 02:59:27 PM »
  Welcome to Survivors;

   We are glad you found us, and it's nice to have you here;

      I think that you will find that we are a little different than most of the other gunboards out there, in that our Board is a large family or a club more than simply a place to ask questions; We have some of the most knowledgeable people in the world here as members, and they will be more than happy to help you, but we do ask that you post a brief introduction , and tell us a little bit about yourself, maybe post a pic or two of your firearms, and generally get the feel of the place rather than diving right in with a bunch of questions;

   That's our culture here, and it seems to work pretty well.

    I would also urge you to read over the forum rules, and the sticky posts and various threads in the Rules and Guidelines forum; Also, I would ask that you take a look through some of the Help And Suggestion threads, as there are many informative posts there on how to use the messaging system, how to post pictures, and number of other things.

   Lastly, we would ask that your try to form your posts so that they are easy to read for the people trying to help you; No one here is going to grade your thread like an English paper, but we do ask that you try to use some punctuation, capital letters, and the space bar, as it makes your writing a lot easier for your readers....

   If you have any questions, or if you need help with anything, please let me, or one of the Moderation staff members know, and we will take care of you.

   Once again, Welcome, it's good to have you here. 8)

Again, welcome to Survivors. If it's questions or comments about our favorite firearm you have come to the right place. We are not snooty or arrogant like some other places, we are all pretty much friends, almost family. We do like proper behavior and as Ranger says an introduction. We talk about other things besides SKSs also, most any firearm, jokes, family life, what melts your butter everyday. Pull up a chair, pop a top, grab a handful of chips and before you know it you'll be a regular.

Oh and if you do not introduce yourself or present yourself as an obvious troll you will incur the wrath of this guy.

This all began in early-2002 when my son suggested that a great father/son activity would be hunting deer. I had never had much interest in either firearms or hunting, so I asked my own father (who became an avid hunter and firearm collector later in life) what might be an appropriate rifle: After I laid down my requirements as “a cheap and reliable brush gun”, he responded without hesitation: “Just get an SKS.” So started my journey into the world of the SKS Carbine and the arcane world of firearms regulation.

On the plus side the SKS has a lot going for it: A short 20 inches, fast handling, and easy to point. It is rock solid reliable—idiot proof. Cheap to buy—usually well under $300. Cheap to shoot with Russian or military surplus ammunition—so you get plenty of range time. And, it has enough accessories to be more than a little of fun to fool around with.

On the minus side both the SKS and cousin the Kalashnikov are the poster children of the anti-gun folks and for many the same reasons: Cheap to own—low cost firearms encourage firearm ownership by lowering the cost barriers…“you own how many?” Cheap to shoot—low cost ammunition also lowers the barriers to ownership and use…“you’re going to the range again?” Accessories—encourage experimentation…“you built that thing yourself?” Add to that the popular myth that the 7.62x39mm cartridge in not suitable for hunting and the fact that many other gun owners will look down their nose at anything produced under a Communist regime, and it's no wonder the SKS is treated like an outcast. All this means there are numerous laws aimed squarely at the SKS.
