As I was de-cosmolining my M59/66 I received from SOG, I noticed there was some corrosion on the magazine, bottom/side of the bolt, and most worrying, the outside of the chamber. Being new to collecting firearms, I wasn't quite sure if this was an issue I needed to contact SOG about or should I just oil it up and keep going. Here's a pic, unfortunately all I have is my camera on my phone.

I wouldn't like the looks of that either. Not sure what to make of it, at least the inside of the chamber looks smooth.

That is pretty disconcerting.  Is that pitting?  Looks pretty serious, but I guess if it's not on any of the vital parts, it will probably not hurt the function of the gun.

I guess it depends on how SOG described the gun.  Was it supposed to be unissued or just average condition?  I would think that they would rectify the situation if they mis-described the gun or just made a mistake in the one they sent you.

That looks very bad...

... and as these rifles are advertised as "Quick Overview: EXCELLENT UNISSUED CONDITION! " and in the description it says, " ... were in an arsenal overseas and never issued, manufactured over 50 years ago. Excellent unissued condition! "

Call them as soon as you can, or sooner and talk to one of the girls there, get a number... and send it back right away!

Maybe you can / should even email this picture to 'em

SOG is good about this... you should have no problem, you will probably have to pay for the return shipping though.

Did you get this with your / an 03 or did you have to go through an 01 FFL?

... anyway, most important thing is to call ASAP!

That pitting IS VERY BAD!

Thanks for the input guys, I ended up trading it in for another M59/66 the shop had, which thankfully had no signs of corrosion. However, they did tell me they were going to simply put it back on the rack for sale...
