I Was A Gun Owner When... Poll

You need to read this poll carefully and pick the FIRST or oldest historical event/year in which you OWNED your own gun(s). 

Some of the events had the effect of increasing gun ownership and therefore by the next event/year listed you were a gun owner.  For others it was just becoming old enough, getting a job, becoming interested - with no historical event to lead them to gun ownership.  That's fine too.

While not scientific in a year by year way, you will still be able to see when the members of the forum became gun owners.

Feel free to post replies to tell about your first gun you owned and why you got it.

My parents and family were not into guns or hunting so it took a while to get my first gun.My dad did serve and kept a .22 rifle in the house, but it wasn't till I took him to gun shows did he finally buy a firing pin it needed.

So soon as I turned 18 I ran out and bought my first rifle from Dunhams in Boardman, Ohio.Soon as I turned 21 I ran to the Youngstown Harley shop and bought my first, and only, pistol.I turned 18 in 1990, so I picked 1994 in the survey.

In 1989 I would have been 13 so I would have owned my first .22 and my first deer rifle.

My dad bought me a Chipmunk .22 in about 82 or so.Still have it.

I blew it on the poll when I voted 1980. I bought my first gun, a Spanish Mauser, in 1975. Wish I still had it. I picked up a few guns after that, but afterward went through a long dry spell owning just a .22 Marlin.

But when Katrina hit, I got serious about prepping. I stumbled upon this web site, and became infected by the SKS virus, of which there is no known cure.
