A Mosin front site
« on: October 26, 2010, 10:09:17 PM »
You should make a front sight made for cutting down M91/30 barrels, that would be pretty nice. I've wanted to take an M91/30 down to 16"-18" or so (yes, very short for such a punchy round, but screw it) but the idea of using an ATI front sight replacement is unappealing. I'm sure more people than just me wouldn't mind taking an old beater Mosin and cutting it down to make a handy carbine, especially now that M38s and M44s are impossible to find online now.

I could second that idea!

Yeah...... I third that idea. It would definitely be a nice thing for those of us with cut down Mosins.

As long as you're working on a sight for the Sub2000, how about engineering an adapter set so it could take common AR15 carbine handguards? I think that would be da bomb.

I will look into it, but I think the Sub 2000 would not close with AR handguards.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about the sight when you are ready. I hope it looks like an AK front sight like your SKS one, threaded to use a standard AK / SKS front sight post. That would be sweet.

It is designed to use the SKS barrel and front sight. Just because that is far easier than doing the dovetail.

It looks almost identical to the SKS but shorter. My test issue is not having enough slot to clamp. I'll post PICS of the plastic rapid print by Friday.

Which sight are you referring to?  I'd have no use for a Kel Tec Sub2000 sight (although I think the firearm itself is appealing, I don't own one yet   ) but the option to cut down my 91/30 would be AMAZING!

The Mosin is what I'm speaking of. The Kel Tec is proving to be difficult to maintain the folding lock. And it is relly tall!

The Mosin seems to be easy except for the clamping slot. Should have it ironed out by Friday and a 3D sample "printed"

The 91/59 is a great template. They actually just cut. inletted and reused the long stocks, and handguards. Seems pretty easy to do with a good rasp and file set.  A router would be required to properly move the forward ring lock.

Hacksaw, crowning tool, and a lot of patience.

Prince if you can make one I might buy it. The problem with the Mosin barrels are that they are not the same diameter the full length and are thicker near the receiver than they are at the muzzle.
