Hey Trueno, I have seen a Yugo 59/66 and seen several others. All these models that I have seen had the hole in the end of the buttstock for the cleaning kit. I have probably seen 6-7 in person. good luck

Mine must be a bastard too. Though it has the hole for the cleaning kit, the only thing I found in there was a spring that fits the hole. Nothing else. The spring does not match any other spring in the system so it's not a spare. I just don't know what' it's in there for.

It's for the cleaning kit, sounds like you just didn't get the cleaning kit with the rifle. The cleaning kit fits into that hole, and the spring presses against it to keep it from rattling. I've never heard of one without a hole though.

Doubt you'd get any money back. I think most times the SKS will come with the kit, but not always. I've got one that didn't come with. No big deal, I'll order one later if I get the urge. You'll probably not use it anyhow.

Trueno, is it that there is no hole in the butt plate or no hole in the wood part of the stock under the butt plate? If it is the butt plate without a hole.....someone might have replaced it with the wrong one. if so remove the butt plate and see if the stock is cut for the kit. if the wood part of the stock has a hole you can replace the butt plate and get a cleaning kit for a few bucks. infact I have a spare butt plate I can send you if that is the problem.
Phaetos, the spring also helps to push the kit out of the stock.

There is no hole in the wooden stock. No filler, no plug, never been touched. Startin' to seem like they just forgot to drill this one LOL!

By the way, noticed sumthin' else about this stock, there are no reinforcement screws/pins in the forearm.

What condition is the stock in? If it's really (really) nice, my guess is that it's…a parade model? I didn't see an answer to whether or not the butt-plate has the corresponding holes or not. This is, of course, pure speculation.
As has been said, almost all SKS's (of all types) have a hole in the buttstock for a cleaning kit (albanian models have two), a spring deep inside the hole to pressure the kit against the trapdoor on the butt-plate, and a butt-plate of sorts to cover and contain the assembly.

It had a 1" rubber pad on it with a hole for a cleaning kit. The pad wasn't exactly fit by a craftsman, sits just a tiny bit cockeyed.
