She's a diamond in the rough. I'll be working on removing that black paint shortly...

Should be a good project.  Strip the paint and the JB Weld on the rear stock.  The metal looks pretty good on that rifle.  You do need to look at your parts count too.., just sayin'.  Looks like you got it for a decent price.  Hope you got mags as the Chinese steel are $40 to $50 a pop.  Bulgy waffles can work and the 5.56 Pro Mags though those can be sketchy

Yeah I got it for under 3 and it came with two mags. I'm not sure if I want to put a thumbhole back on her or find an American made stock like the Ironwood stock. I realize bubba had no idea he broke the law by switching the stock but I'll bring her up (or rather down) to 922r standard. Not sure how the JB weld is gonna come off though...any suggestions? Solvents? Yep. Should be an interesting project.
I read somewhere that '74 mags work to with a little modification. Has anyone here done that? Thanks for  the suggestions.

That will be a great looking rifle after you get the crap off of the furniture, which looks like mismatched Romy stuff on the backend.

Could you get the galil mags to work with those? I know even tapco makes galil mags and a galil is basically a 5.56 ak right?

Just wondering, looks like a good project that could work out nicely.

The stock probably is a Romy by the looks of it. The handguards will be the first to get it. I'll strip them down and poly them back in shape. Has anyone redone one of these? I'm curious as to the finish if its shiny or more of a satin finish..?
As for the but-stock, if anyone has a thumb-hole that they've stripped down and would part with PM me.

The Chinese and other countries use Amber Shellac for the finish on their furniture.  Not the most durable but if you want to look kinda original color and sheen.  Shellac can be shiny or satin if you steel wool it a bit with some 0000.  Follow shellac can thinning directions and you will do fine.

Thanks AKBLUE,

I'll see if the local paint store has it. Still need a but stock for the thing. Did they offer a druganov version to your knowledge? I've seen some of those on eBay but I'd like to know about what to look for first.

Thanks all for the comments.

Weren't there some of these that made it into the US without heat treated receivers?

USA post ban assembled by B-West Arms with non heat treated receivers.  B-West also imported Chinese assembled AK's and are marked madein China etc and are fine.

Look to be in great shape aside from the furniture. Nice deal!

If I were you, I'd get the regular furniture for it. Maybe the timbersmith unfinished set and do some fitting/work with it, or go the PG,FCG, and GP route, then buy whatever cheap furniture you want. There is a Finish guy on ebay that sells new old stock Chinese buttstocks if you want it to be authentic.

Yeah due to the price I might throw some good furniture on there. I got a Ironwood stock for my Maadi and of course I kept the original furniture. I'll probably find the correct butt-stock first. Then I'd put it away and get a pistol grip American made stock with the minimum number of 922 parts to put it together legally. Anyone have the link that counts the parts for you?
