F-Class Bolt Gun for Flo
Danjal:
Why the nosgar again? Just wanted to reuse the same dies and components? Short of running .223 or .308 in TR, you're open to 8mm and smaller. 6-7mms are pretty much the rage in f class of all ranges. The further out you shoot the larger the case capacity typically. Short ranges still see magnum cases for less drift.
Rocketvapor:
I agree the 22 Nosler is a challenge when going up against larger cartridges.
I guess in the lower recoiling range the 6mm like the 6BR, 6BRA, are an option.
Maybe the 6GT or even the 6ARC.
A 22BR/BRA/BRX would be an option with even a little more velocity than the Nosler.
That would still make use of my supply of heavy 224 bullets.
Powder charges of 30 to 32 grains, bullets from 80 to 90 grains, velocities fast enough to register on a 1000yd E-Target, a rifle in the 20 pound range, recoil with the 22N is nill, in an AR or a bolt gun.
Even if I didn't have a boatload of stuff for the 22N I don't see us shooting anything with anywhere close to the recoil of a .308, for 70 rounds in an hour or so.
I'll have all 3 normal size bolt heads, and would only need a barrel to shoot something different once she wears out the big ol chunk of metal on order :)
28" bull Shilen select match.
Looks like we will be into this for about $1500 (less optic) when all is done.
Guess we could have just gone to one of those big box stores (that sell Liberty safes) and bought a complete rifle in a popular caliber.
Filroy77:
How would the recoil fare in .308 in say 110-125 gr. projectiles? Jus throwing stuff out there.
Rocketvapor:
Recoil is "somewhat" related to the mass of the projectile plus charge mass times projectile velocity.
Look up recoil impulses for rifles.

Typical recoil:

For 100 to 300 yard shooting, light for caliber bullets will "kick" less.
The problem I see with light for caliber bullets is performance @ 600 to 1000yds.
For F-Class shooting, you can not use a brake, but heavier guns are common.
Just for fun I loaded up some .30-06 rounds for the Springfield with 100gr 30 carbine bullets.
One of these days I need to get back out with the SKS. Just have tunnel vision @600yds for now. :banghead:
Anyone remember the Survivor Shoots?
Filroy77:
I made some of those 06 100gr as well. Have yet to try them.
