7.62x54 AK build questions

Hello, first off I have never built an AK, but, I am pretty handy with tools and have use of a mill and and a metal lathe.
 Thinking that my first attempt might be a 7.62x54r AK style rifle. Looking at this receiver, http://www.copesdistributing.com/pslfpk-762x54r-receiver-tgifpk-p-9325.html, gotta find a barrel, bolt, etc. Before I jump in at the deep end I would appreciate some advice from people who do things similar to this on a regular basis. There are still kits available:  http://www.gunbroker.com/All/BI.aspx?Keywords=psl+parts+kit.  However, quality barrels are kind of hard to come by.  Because of this, some folks have taken to building "heavy barrel PSLs" out of UK-59 barrels:  http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=501644555.

PSLs require a little more attention to detail than normal AK kits, as they typically involve significantly more fitting.  OE barrels are slender and have a fragile breach, so you will want special tools to help treat it gently (especially during press operation).  I recommend Forbus:  http://robertforbus.com/Kalashnikova_Tools.htm (search the page for tools specifically for the PSL).

PSLs are really pricey to build right now, A cheaper alternative might be a VEPR in 7.62x54 . . .

you can buy a VEPR in x54 for much less than you can build one.

But the PSL is so nice when you get the build done.

Nowadays you can get a x54R VEPR for $825. I payed $1000 for mine

If you want it to be a true AK style you can get a CSS stock adapter and add a fixed stock, a bolt on hand guard retainer, and a normal AK gas tube with a normal ak hand guard.
