Removal of muzzle nut
« on: September 11, 2015, 07:24:32 PM »
I'm converting a buddies WASR and need to get that muzzle nut off. I assume it's tack welded. I think I can grind through that weld and free it up. Is there anything I need to know before getting into this?

 EDIT...  It's a ROMAK 99.1

Typically its just a crappy tack weld I cut 2 off a set of wasrs a few years back just take your time and make sure not to cut into the threads but I am pretty sure you already know that. Ohh and the detentes on mine were already moving freely.

Thanks Hodgie. I assume it has the standard 14mm left hand threads?

The plunger pin seems to be kinda stuck. Probably just have to beat on it.

OK, I got the muzzle nut off and there are no threads. So I need to figure out where to get a smaller I.D. flash hider and what size threads to put on the muzzle. I loaned my one and only micrometer to the neighbor so I can't even measure it right now. Anyone know something about this?

This is a ROMAK 99.1 by the way.

 Thanks guys.

I have the die but need a TAT (thread alignment tool). I've only seen the kind that thread into the die. I ran across this one on CNC Warrior and was wondering if it would work?..

That is for an Annular Cutter not a threading die. The TAT is available from several sources if you Google etc.

So I got it threaded to 1/2 X 28. Now the problem is that the length of the threaded area is longer than the brakes I have, and I don't want to cut the barrel. I need a brake/hider that will cover 0.8" or 20mm of threads. I don't know of any websites that advertise this spec. Help?

Yes., the setback on the front sight base on those models creates a long thread area.  You can scout out a piece of round stock to make a spacer to place behind the muzzle device to take up that space.  Some devices do have longer thread runs.,  but that is hit or miss.
