For those following this, I spoke with Ken, and Ken spoke with Childers.  The front half of the receiver is obviously out of wack since the gap at the upper rails should be 25mm.  Ken has been really good to work with through this, and hopefully Childers will be just as responsive.  I would really like to see this finished looking as good as it does now, only as tight as it should be.

Can you detect any gap at the rear of the trunnion where the bulged area and receiver are joined/riveted?
It could be that it is not fully seated or if the receiver was not formed properly when bent into shape. Or got tweaked somehow during the build.

Assuming there is no obvious bulge on either side of the receiver walls?

Since you had it built vs a home build the options are a bit different.  If I had built it I would inspect that trunnion and receiver area.  If that looks tight I would likely pad the receiver and use the hydraulic press to see if I could close the gap and the forward area of the receiver by gentle persuasion as Ken seemed to advise.

Hope it works out for you.

There didn't appear to be any gap between the receiver and trunnion.  I spoke with Ken, and he spoke with Childers.  Both parties wanted to take a look at the rifle, so it was shipped back to Ken.

Ken called today and emailed me a pic.

He says the issue is with how the receiver was bent.  He is going to call Childers, but he seemed apprehensive about causing any drama.  It looks like I may need to contact them.  I'm a little upset considering what I have into this project trying to having something built nicer than what I could buy...  not the case.

Very disappointing.  Both Ken and Childers have a good reputation.
But you are not able to enjoy the build/rifle. I hope it gets resolved soon.

OP, was this resolved? That gap looks like the slightly out of spec bend I used to see in the AKB flats

Haven't checked this in a while, and this Angry may never see this reply.  Ken was able to tighten up the receiver in the press, and all has been good.  The carrier is still a little loose, but the bolt locks up tight.
