Coffee shelf life

Anybody know how long you could store a can of unopened coffee and it would be still viable?

Coffee in my house has a shelf life of about a month. :bounce:
When the SHTF you better already have it at hand, because it won't be on the shelves when you get to the Wal-Mart land.

Same here.  :)

This can my dad bought last year some time and has since started using k cups (yuk). Thought I could put it with the emergency food stash.

I sure HOPE it has at least a year shelf life
If I rotate correctly I always drink one year old coffee.
When the dark roast goes on sale, we stock up.

I wonder what fresh coffee tastes like.

I believe the  coffee sold by “the ready store” and other prepper type companies comes with a shelf life of 20 years. Both the actually freez dried coffee and what looked like “regular” coffee packed in buckets with desiccant and oxygen absorbers.

So store the can pictured in a larger 5 gallon bucket with a tight lid one small  o2 absorber and a desiccant pack. Store that bucket in a cool dry place and I bet your good for 20+ years

So they say dry ice will displace oxygen. Throw a chunk of that in the bucket with the other ingredients and mash the lid on tight?  :)

I'm a coffee lover, but have decided that for long term storage, and even for short term camping, to go with instant.  It aint the same, but I'm adaptable enough to roll with it.  jd

How far down the road are you planning to drink this cup of coffee? Instant coffee will last indefinitely.

The NEXT 3 pounds in the pantry says July 2018, then 3 pounds OCT 2018, then 6 pounds dated NOV 2018.
I'll buy more long before then.
I try to stay at least a year ahead.

I would put it in the freezer Filroy.   Coffee beans are oily. That oil, just like rice, will go rancid. How long. The link Ramblin posted has lots of info.

Most of your packaged coffee in cans is already "stale" when it is packaged.  Basically, coffee in a can will last a long time after the "best by" date.  The only factor is taste vs. time.  It may start to become increasingly stale the longer it is stored.

Good stuff guys, thanks! Ramblin', thanks for the link, very informative.

So, freezer it is with the date it went in.  :)

Raw coffee beans will last indefinitely. There are a lot of twine & paperclip ways to roast your own, including popcorn poppers or even an acetylene torch...or you can spend big $$$ on a home roaster.

https://www.coffeeproject.com/roasting101

Fresh coffee, according to the snobs I know, is NEVER older than 7 days after roasting.
