Shallow well pumps
« on: March 29, 2019, 10:44:40 PM »
I recently bought an old homestead that adjoins my property, on this property there is a barn/garage, outhouse, old hand pump style well house and another enclosed well house that once had an electric well pump.
I store items up there and would like to get the electric well functioning again by means of a generator when needed. Currently the house just has an accumulator and not hooked to anything and a hand pump hooked to the well. I can look down the casing and see water about 10 feet down. There is line out of the ground going to a frost free spigot.
I would like to install a pump to just feed the spigot to wash things and water my goats. I'm thinking a shallow well jet pump would be fine but am looking for pump recommendations. Would 1/2 hp supply a hose adequately?  This will just get occasional use so I'mnot looking to spend a fortune.

Sorry if difficult to understand. On the phone and it is being flaky.

You can check on Harbor Frt website and see whay the secs are on their shallow pumps like how deep and volume. I am sure there are others. Not having to deal with a well for 40 years I forget.
What me worry? We will all be dead in 12 years "AOC"

thanks for the Harbor freight recommendation  , not sure why i had not looked there.  \
Decided to go with this one, its an all in one unit and has good reviews.  Also my reading on the subject i have read that newer pressure switches and valving dont need such a large pressure tank.  seems this should be more than adequate.

He meant camper, not goats...not animals that can get sick from shallow wells with poor natural filtration. "goats" as in the kinds that have tires, tail lights, and a trailer hitch.

10' isn't much. If you have a casing of 4" or more, you can use a submersible well pump, or even a home sump pump. Both will offer outlets of upto or over 1". Sumps are usually 1.25. or 1.5 for common pvc use. Both will produce over 2000gph and start at $100ish.
