Shoot your gun inside

New system to practice indoors. They have a couple of different options, a sled and cubes.

The draw back with dry fire is no recoil but the cost in ammo savings may be worth the cost of this system.

That's cool.  Back when I was all alone locked down in an apartment in the Atlanta area, I purchased something like that.  The real problem with them is that since it doesn't cycle the action, after every time you shoot, you have to rack the slide, which kind of kills the whole practice.  If you have a double action pistol, you could shoot repeat shots, but doing it in double action mode with the long trigger makes it different from a real world scenario.  Fortunately for me, my carry piece is a Kel-Tec P11 which is a double action only pistol so it was particularly well suited for use with this type of system, but not everyone will be as lucky.

I have been wanting to get myself another system for home practice with an AR.  This one is actually a bit more natural as it replaces the bolt carrier group and charging handle (and includes a high visibility "magazine").  The unit actually resets the hammer so you can do rapid follow up shots.  It's called the Mantis (link below).

Help understand something. Wouldn't this device give a false point of aim result, since a light beam is perfectly straight, and real ammo gives different trajectories based on powder, bullet weight, etc? Or is the distance for indoor use to practice so short that such differences between the two don't matter?

You could not develop a zero point for any range that has drop/drift.
You can fine tune you position, hold, and mechanics of shooting.
I  have the wife dry fire holding on a 1/4" dot at 100yds (outside), scope setting doesn't matter.
OR
the zero in the date of a penny in the house.
Well I guess my new **** stirrin paddle don't work . I got a like . WTF 😈

Flo just received her EXPERT Mid range card from the NRA.

A friend of mine has one kind of like this. Eventually I'll get one too. Really good setup if you use it right.

Addressing a couple of the posted questions. Distance of zero isn't really an issue if you are practicing up close stuff.  Likewise you could set up at a much greater rifle distance but then you would need to have a "laser practice zero" and re zero to your live fire zero. But for pistol practice at inside the room distance it's not a problem.

As for the no recoil, no cycling issue that boils down to what drills you do. The best dry fire drill and the best one to use the laser for is one shot from concealment. That's arguably the most important pistol drill anyway. People love firing to slide lock, dynamic mag change and all that but how often does that really happen. Draw and fire a thousand times is probably better skill development. Do it super slow focussing on each mm of movement. Do it fast as you can. From standing. From sitting. From the couch to the door. On and on. Point being you can do a lot of good work with the laser trainer if you practice the stuff it's good for and save double taps for live fire day.

That's a good point.  The one I bought is called LaserHit, and it was being sold by the guy that made it in the Atlanta area.  I'm fairly certain that the laser unit would work with all other similar phone aps though.  In fact, I think they're all probably compatible.  Anyway, he did tell me of one of his customers who had several tablets, cell phones and was able to set up a course of fire for himself with multiple targets while going through an area of his house (mind you, we were all still mostly locked down back then).  I only tried it with the one phone, but I could see that working.  Of course, then you do get into the issue of having to reset the trigger or pull the slide back.
