My suggestion would be to give him his own user group and title. Call it "Special" or "Shortbus".... maybe "Gimpy 'tard".

Not sure if it is me, or the board, but the pics give a "bandwidth exceeded" error from photobucket...

Not the board or you, it's the host of the pictures.  Check back again in a day.  Because these are publicly hosted pictures (I don't re-host them on my server), often they have a bandwidth limit per day (i.e., they can only be viewed a set amount of times), and they are posted at other sites as well.

If we could get hi-res pics of the plating, wouldn't be too hard to replicate.

So make a fake N. Korean honor guard SKS ?  Sounds like the fake Polish Honor Guard rifle that was for sale at a gun show in PA a while back for $1,450 and is being dicussed at GunBoards.com. I knew as soon as I saw those Polish laminated SKS stocks on e-pay it would only be a matter of time. Would you use a Chinese SKS to make this faux finish N. Korean Honor Guard SKS ?

Yes I would   If I cannot have an original for my collection, I see no harm is having the best representation I can make for my collection.

I think the real question would be- Would I ever sell a fake as an original.      NEVER!!!
It is one thing to have a reasonable representation for a collection and quite another to attempt to con the unsuspecting. And those who assist in this activity are just as guilty. Such as self proclaimed experts who chime in and claim the fake is real!!!

If you just think one step ahead you would realize even if you are honest and "would NEVER !!! " sell a fake as an original what about the person you sell it to ??  Will they be as honest ??  Clearly this is how the Polish Honor Guard rifle ended up for sale being represented as an original.  Or at least until the facts were revealed to him and he finally admitted it could be fake but he was told of it's authenticity by the person he bought it from.

No doubt an experienced collector would not be fooled but noobs might down the road when you sell it...that would be the harm  :(

having the best representation
In the end a put together fake N. Korean Honor Guard rifle would be as good a representation as spray painting quaters with gold paint for a coin collector who can't afford real gold coins
