TAPCO, Inc. G2 TRIGGER GROUP PRODUCT SAFETY WARNING

We have determined that during the period between October 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008, G2 trigger groups may have contained disconnectors that have a disconnector spring hole that is too deep. Use of these could result in a rifle malfunction and should be checked immediately.

The correct depth of the hole is between .383 to .420. Any disconnector with a depth of .421 or more should be returned for exchange.

NOTE: The spring hole has a conical point and the measurement should be made from the shoulder where the spring will rest, not the point of the hole.

Returns should be sent to:

TAPCO G2 Return/Exchange
3615 Kennesaw N. Ind. Pkwy.
Kennesaw, GA 30144

Or, contact your Sales Account Manager for additional information

Thank you,

TAPCO, Inc.

I just received an email from Bill at Tapco, and he confirmed that this is for real.  However, he went out of his way to remind me that this is a "safety warning", and not a "recall" . . . I'll bet there's some legal issue with using one term over the other.

I can just imagine why these are getting recalled :P

I just got 6 of the single and double hook G2 kits from Copes.  All are fine.  I suspect the recessed spring may allow the disconnector to slide or bounce off the hammer and fail to retain it..., aka hammer follow..., dunno?

Yep.. or withhold long enough to act as a sear.

Either way Id be worried about an out of battery.

What would happen if you didn't even have a disconnector? I always assumed it would be "youknowwhat", and therefore illegal and dangerous. I also assumed it would hurt your finger pretty bad.

More than likely just hammer follow. Personally, due to the risk of out of battery detonation, I have no inclination to find out.

Yea, and I have no inclination to find out what Bubba feels like on the inside. I might prefer "out of battery detonation".  Well, in Bubba's case I know I would.  :?

The AK's design makes a true out-of-battery ignition almost impossible.  The carrier shields the rear of the bolt until the bolt travels it's full forward travel.  The rear of the bolt does become exposed before the bolt rotates, but not before the round is chambered.  If I am not mistaken :)

had one fail and all that happens is a misfeed, the last poster is correct no out of battery but bolt does not have time to lock there for it tries to act like a blow back design instead of its intended gas operation and well the bolt and carrier are to light for this so it will cycleway to fast and usly jam or close on an empty chamber, when mine did it the most that would happen is bag-jam only once did i get a double tap and thats what made me find the problem. the sear would catch when i cycled it by hand but the sear spring was to weak and when it cycled on its own it some how would not catch, so no its not that ez to do "you know what" you surly need the right sear and a rate reducer to even come close which is how the "real" one works
