Is SKK a kiwi term?
« on: July 08, 2018, 02:35:55 PM »
Just wondering if anyone else has heard of the term SKK? What they're meaning to say is sks-d, sks-m or type 84. It's a morph of sks and ak I know, but it bothers me when I see 'SKK' stuff for sale. If anyone reading this is from NZ maybe you can tell me where we came up with that. Our supposed best gun shop in the country Gun City may be the culprits for starting this.

I'm about to buy an SKK so I've done some research too! It seems the SKS types with the detachable AK mags imported into NZ and AUS were called SKK by the importers. The one I am going to buy has the same characteristics as what our American friends call SKS-D, clearly different from the SKS-M. It has 'SKS' on the receiver, not SKK. There were a lot more SKK rifles sent to Australia than NZ, but most of them were either destroyed after the 1996 ban, or hidden.

I suppose the importers had to call it something. They are cool rifles to shoot, you will love your one. I'm debating whether to put mine on E, so I can run some big bananas through it. The only problem that I encounter with it is I have to leave the mag with one round less, 6 rounds in a 7 etc. Just a fraction too tight getting the mag in, it's like the bottom of the bolt needs to be shaved a few more thou to be perfect.

The SKK is an SKS Model KS 30. Manufactured by Six Corp supplied by NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation) as an SKK to NZ and AU. It also has a shorter barrel (16") than the SKS D (16.5") and the SKS M (Monte Carlo stock).

That's good info.  Thanks for sharing.
